The road to insanity...
...starts with a single beep.
The smoke detector in our hallway decided to let us know at 5AM that its batteries were low. I closed our bedroom door to block out the noise, so we could get a little more sleep.
Husband had to dash off to fly this morning. We briefly talked about the smoke detector, and he told me he’d fix it when he got home.
That sounded like a great option, if I wanted to slowly go insane throughout the course of the day. I’m not sure what’s more annoying – the high-pitched beep, or knowing that the next high-pitched beep is only 21 seconds away. (Sadly, yes, I counted.)
I bought some 9V batteries, got out our ladder, and replaced the battery.
Hear that? It’s silence, also known as the sweet sound of success.

Those smoke alarms can be the most irriating sound ever, unless of course, there is a fire.
LOL! I soooo know what you are talking about. Same thing happened here the other day just thankfully not at 5am! The other problem? Hubby apparently loaned out our ladder because it was MIA! And I couldn't reach the dad-gum thing so I packed up and went to mom's!!!
You know what I don't get....why do they ALWAYS go dead in the middle of the night? Why can't they go dead mid afternoon or during dinner!?!? LOL
Ahahahaha. Yeah. They always seem to go out in the middle of the night. Kudos for actually waiting until you had a replacement battery to change it.
Oh man... it seems like our smoke alarm battery goes off every couple of months. That's one thing you just can't ignore!
That happened this spring to Husby and I - we were staying at the in-laws while they were out of town (conveniently) and it began beeping around 5 a.m. Pure hell.
totally relate. my housemate messagede me while i was away so i told her how to get it taken care of--and presumed she did it. i mean, why would you not take care of it?? needless to say, i was NOT happy to get woken up in the ungodly hours of the morning to a continuous beep!!! only to fix that one and have the other one start, like, the next night!!! aaaggh! i bought the batteries and told them both i don't want to hear from them again for a Very.Long.Time. lol
the other path to insanity starts with an uncontrollable mosquito problem in your bedroom...
Oh I hate that! Those things are so annoying! Glad you got it to stop.
Good for you!!! Our on post housing is a mess and mine used to go off every 2-3 weeks. Even once I took the batteries out. Even after changing the batteries. Finally, last month, it happened at 3am and I had HAD it.
After taking a hammer and screwdriver to all four units, they had to come replace them.
Turns out, the units had "expired" back in 2001.....
We just take them apart and intend to replace batteries,,,,,,seems to take awhile to do it though.......That sound is very startling when it goes off!!!!

-1 has this little watch that for some reason has a timer/alarm function on it (why a 4 year old needs an alarm or timer I dont know). Anyways he managed to do something so that at 59 after the hour, every hour it beeps. just once. but every hour.
and we cant figure out how to stop it.
Necessity is the mother of invention. It is amazing what we can learn to do rather quickly when we must -- or to save our sanity.
