A Secret Recipe from My Aunt Pillsbury

Yesterday a co-worker said that she had been meaning to ask me for my cookie recipe. I paused for a second. “What cookie recipe?” I thought. Then I remembered that I had brought in chocolate chip cookies for Valentine’s Day. And then I laughed when I realized what “cookie recipe” I had used. I first offered the disclaimer that she might be very disappointed in my “recipe.” And then I shared it with her: 1. Go to the grocery store. 2. Buy a pack of (already sliced) Pillsbury or Nestle chocolate chip cookie dough. 3. Stick them in the oven. 4. Share them with your co-workers and fool them into thinking that you can bake. She couldn’t believe it, and she followed up with, “But, how do you get them so moist?” I told her that I just bake them for the shortest time they recommend because [I’m impatient] I want them to be soft and delicious. Next time I think I’m just going to say it’s a very complicated family recipe.

That's hilarious! I get a lot of my recipes from Kraft Food and Family magazine and noone is the wiser.

I'd give my arm and leg for some cookies. Maybe this weekend I'll make my peanut butter chip peanut butter cookies. I make batches of like 6 cookies to keep it portion controlled. But omg soft gooey cookies from the oven are sooooooo good!

You forgot a very important step: Eat half of the cookie dough before making the cookies. ;)

I always bake from regular old cake/brownie mixes, and seriously, people go crazy for that stuff.

Brilliant. Although next time maybe claim that your cookie reciepe has been in your family for generations and you could tell her the secret ingredient but then you'd have to kill her.

I did this with Red Velvet Cake. I just bought a Red Velvet Cake at the grocery and picked at the icing until it looked homemade and served it like I'd made it.

Amazing how cookies can basically bake themselves now. What would and/or do our grandmothers think?

O.M.Goodness. I didn't know you had an Aunt Pillsbury, too!!!! Heh. I took cookies to Fabul-O's class for the project I got roped into for St. Pat's day. Everyone raved about the time it must have taken, blah, blah, blah. The longest part of the process was getting my coupon to scan at the self check out.

I used to work for a company whose owner's made everything from sratch. We had a company party one time and I took a delicious strawberry bundt cake with a glaze...everyone raved about how moist, etc. and asked what my secret was...the answer, "serve it before the sell by date."
